SSSW11 announcement

We are pleased to announce the eight Summer School on Ontological Engineering and the Semantic Web (SSSW 2011). The successful and groundbreaking SSSW series of summer schools started in 2003 and is now a well-established event within the research community and a role model for several other initiatives. Presented by leading researchers in the field, Asunción Gómez-Pérez and Óscar Corcho among them, it represents an opportunity for postgraduate students to equip themselves with the range of theoretical, practical, and collaboration skills necessary for full engagement with the challenges involved in understanding and applying Semantic Technologies. To ensure a high ratio between tutors and students the school will be limited to 50 participants.

GeoLinkedData (.es) receives an honorary mention in the Triplification Challenge 2010

We are please to announce that the members of GeoLinked Data (.es) have received an honorary mention in the Triplification Challenge 2010 in the "Open Government Data" track.

In the work presented, "Geographical Linked Data: a Spanish Use Case", have participated the following OEG's members: Alexander De León, Víctor Saquicela, Luis M. Vilches-Blázquez, Boris Villazón-Terrazas, Freddy Priyatna, Óscar Corcho, Carlos Buil, José Mora and Jean Paul Calbimonte.

Óscar Corcho and Mariano Rico have beed interviewed by The Semantic Web Blog. The interview is focused in Fortunata project, developed by the Ontology Engineering Group of the Computer Science School at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid's Department of Informatics Engineering. GeoLinkedData.es portal announcement

We are pleased to announce that the portal has been launched GeoLinkedData.es. GeoLinked Data (.es) is an open initiative aimed at enriching the Web of Data with geospatial data of the Spanish territory. This initiative has been launched with the publication of various information sources from the National Geographic Institute, making knowledge bases available as RDF (Resource Description Framework) in accordance with the principles of Linked Data. In addition, this data is interrelated with other existing knowledge bases in the Linking Open Data. Thus, Spain is joining the initiative to other countries like Britain and Germany have recently begun.

Asunción Gómez and Óscar Corcho participate in the 3rd edition of ONTOBRAS

Asunción Gómez-Pérez and Óscar Corcho participated in the 3rd edition of the Ontology Research Seminar in Brazil (ONTOBRAS) which was held from 30 to 31 August in Florianópolis (Brazil).

Asunción Gómez-Pérez analyze the challenge of the Linked Data Web

The director of the OEG, Asunción Gómez-Pérez, writes an analysis of the challenge that opens in the near future in the field of Linked Data. In this extensive and comprehensive analysis, Asunción Gómez-Pérez carris out a review of all the aspects that have to be taken into account from the beginning, the principles of the Linked Data, to the end of the process, generation and use of data.

The analysis was published in the website madrid+d, which is a network that brings together public and private research and regional business associations, which covers the essentials aspects of communication between the knowledge producing sector and industry sector with the aim of improving the competitiveness of the region through knowledge transfer.
