Geobuddies

geobuddiesIn this project, an application has been developed that provides user-centered geomatic information and services, anywhere anytime, for pilgrims in the “Camino de Santiago”. The application supports mobile, dynamic and context-aware access and interaction with a range of geographical and application-specific resources and services, with the support of the databases provided by Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN).

The application is built on a platform (GeoBuddies) that includes implementations of algorithms for the following purposes:

  • Ontology-based information integration, which is used to harmonise the multilingual and heterogeneous geographical databases provided by IGN.
  • Social tagging of resources and services, which provides the necessary information to derive user communities.
  • Collaborative filtering, which provides recommendations based on user communities.
  • Service composition and execution, which is used for the dynamic creation and use of added-value services based on the user’s context.
  • Data transfer and reliability in mobile environments, which ensures that the relevant data is always available to services and mobile devices.
