The Ontology Engineering Group presented an article at the international DC-2011 conference organized by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative. The article is co-authored by OEG members (Elena Montiel-Ponsoda, Daniel Vila-Suero, Boris Villazón-Terrazas and Asunción Gómez-Perez), together with Elena Escolano Rodríguez, Chief of the Service of Coordination and Standardization of the National Library of Spain (Biblioteca Nacional de España) and Gordon Dunsire, member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) for the creation of library standards. The paper is entitled Style Guidelines for Naming and Labeling Ontologies in the Multilingual Web, and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of using URI local names and/or labels (rdfs:labels) when naming and labeling of ontologies. The paper presents an in-depth analysis of existent recommendations for the naming and labeling of ontologies. The authors comment on their experiences in the translation of ontologies from English into Spanish (the FOAF ontology and the ISBD standard (International Standard Bibliographic Description) developed by the IFLA group). Accordingly they propose a set of preliminary guidelines for the naming and labeling of ontologies in the context of the Multilingual Web.
