Maria S. Perez received the M.S. degree in Computer Science in 1998 at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in 2003 and the Extraordinary Ph.D. Award at the same university. Since 1998 she has been an associate professor at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. Her research interest includes high-performance and large-scale computing, parallel I/O, autonomic computing, data mining and e-semantic science.

She is coauthor of 4 books, 7 book chapters and she has published more than 70 articles in international journals and conferences. She has been involved in the organization of several workshops and conferences, and she has edited several proceedings books and special issues. She is serving as a program committee member of several conferences. She has participated in several international projects funded by European Commision and supervised the doctoral thesis of 4 PhD students.

Projects

In the context of this research areas, nowadays I'm participating in the following research projects:

  • España Virtual: I am working in the realization of a semantic metascheduler suitable for the processing of satellite images.
  • Scalus: I am coordinating this PEOPLE project. I will co-supervise 4 students in this training network. The training network is about Storage and scalability.

Finally, I have participated in the following projects, some of which have had a large impact in the aforementioned research areas:

  • Ontogrid: I participated in the definition of the semantic grid architecture and in the Satellite Use Case.
  • Geobuddies: I participated in the data management WP of the project, by means of the definition of GEO-DSI, a data storage interface suitable for transferring data to mobile devices.
