Mari Carmen Suárez-Figueroa is a teaching assistant at the Departamento de Inteligencia Artificial, Facultad de Informática, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Artificial Intelligence Department, School of Computer Science, UPM). She is also a senior researcher at the Ontology Engineering Group (OEG).
She graduated in Computer Science from UPM in 2001. She got the PhD in Artificial Intelligence in UPM in June 2010. She has received an Outstanding Award granted by the Commission on Graduate Doctorate from the UPM.
Her research activities are focused on Ontology Engineering, the Semantic Web, and Linked Data. Particularly, her research lines include methodologies for ontology network development, ontology network development in different domains, ontology evaluation and quality, and ontology design patterns. In these areas, she has participated in several European research projects (NeOn, SEEMP, OntoGrid, Knowledge Web, PIKON, Esperonto, and OntoWeb), and Spanish research projects (mIO! and BuscaMedia).
She has been research visitor at Department of Computer Science (University of Liverpool) in 2004, at KMi (Knowledge Media Institute - Open University) in 2007, and at IRIT (Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse) in 2012.
She is one of the editors of the book entitled "Ontology Engineering in a Networked World" published by Springer in 2012.
She co-organized the Terminology and Knowledge Engineering Conference (TKE 2012), the Workshop on Ontology Patterns (WOP 2012) at ISWC 2012, the Workshop on Ontology Engineering in a Data-driven World (OEDW 2012) at EKAW 2012, the Workshop on Knowledge Reuse and Reengineering over the Semantic Web (KRRSW 2008) at ESWC 2008, the Workshop on Evaluation of Ontologies for the Web (EON 2006) at WWW 2006, the tutorial called "Ontology Engineering: the NeOn Methodology through the NeOn Toolkit" at ISWC 2009, and the tutorial called "NeOn Methodology: how to build ontology networks?" at EKAW 2008.
In the context of the research lines abovementioned, she is currently participating in the following research projects:
